We are Going Digital with Our Museum Restoration Fund Campaign!
The beautiful edifice, commonly called the Chateau, which now houses a major part of the Ukrainian Museum & Library of Stamford, was built in 1867 by Edward Quintard. Ancestors of Quintard purchased the grounds upon which the Chateau stands in 1708.
Fast forward to 1933, Bishop Constantine Bohachevsky of the Ukrainian Catholic Church purchased the Quintard estate. On September 4, 1933, St. Basil Preparatory School was dedicated, and plans were immediately announced to establish a cultural institution on the premises. The Museum and Library opened its doors in 1935, and the official opening and dedication took place in September 1937.
In 2024, we launched a Restoration Fund Campaign to help cover the cost of essential repairs to our beloved Chateau. These included pointing and other unexpected exterior work, which totaled $70,000.
Since then, we’ve also faced additional urgent expenses, including elevator repairs ($10,000) and upgrades to our fire and alarm systems. Altogether, we’re now looking to raise $100,000 to cover these restoration and safety needs.
